Genetic Testing

Our team of physicians work with an expert team of Geneticists to understand your DNA mapping, to identify changes in your chromosomes, genes, or proteins.    These results are then integrated into your holistic treatment plan.

 Why genetic testing?

  • Confirmation or ruling out of genetic conditions
  • Understanding your predispositions, the chance of developing a condition
  • Chance of passing on a genetic disorder to your children

Understanding our genetic makeup, allows you to proactively adjust your lifestyle choices, introduce early stage preventative measures , and allows your medical team to better prepare treatment plans for you, to minimize the impact, delay onset or completely avoid the potential risk.

We offer the following testing panels, however we are also able to tailor a genetic testing panel to your needs.

 Testing panels include:

  • Exome Plus  (Genetic Passport) –   We have 25000 genes in the human genome, this test is your genetic signature. It maps out the full genome, and then reads the sequencing of 2500 genes related to diseases and disorders, including cancer, heart disease and autoimmune disorders.  In addition to understanding your predispositions, it provides the hereditary impact for your children.  Allowing you to proactively adjust your lifestyle choices and introduce preventative measures, to maximize your healthspan and lifespan.  As science uncovers more understanding of our genes, your Xome mapping (Genetic Passport) can be updated annually to incorporate new learnings applied to your DNA sequencing for continued proactive health care.

  • Blood clotting panel -  Determines the dysfunction of the clotting system, resulting from related diseases, including thrombophilia, haemophilia A and dysfibrinogenemia.  Identifies the damage that leads to abnormal platelet function, and the risk of venous thrombosis, and therefore your susceptibility to prolonged bleeding after procedures or injuries, or prolonged immobilization.  Awareness of a genetic predisposition allows you to adjust your lifestyle choices, incorporate prevention measures, and can lead to your physicians adjusting your treatment programs.

  • Circulation panel – Determines the risk of developing genetically determined vascular diseases, including disorders of absorption and elimination of fats (lipids) from the body, which are a common cause of sudden heart attack, particularly in younger people.  As well, identify congenital disorders related to risk of aneurysms and atherosclerosis. Awareness of a genetic predisposition allows you to adjust your lifestyle choices, incorporate prevention measures, and can lead to your physicians adjusting your treatment programs. Information on the abnormalities of the vessel walls is also important when planning surgery procedures.

  • Collagen panel -  Collagen is the most common protein in our body, 29 types of collagen have been described to date, responsible for maintaining the proper flexibility and resistance of the skin, tendons, muscles, bones and vessels.    This test enables the diagnosis of congenital disorders of collagen synthesis and the risk of developing connective tissue diseases.   Abnormal forms of collagen can lead to weakening of muscles and tendons, this is important for athletes to understand as they could experience overload during training which may lead to reduced mobility and injuries.  Understanding this predisposition can lead to adjusting training, rehabilitation and therapy programs, in addition to incorporating preventative measures and adjusting your lifestyle choices.

  • Metabolism panel – Determines the genetic risk factors for metabolic syndrome (associated with thyroid disease), diabetes, and disorders related to uric acid, homocysteine and lipid levels.   These diseases are the result of a combination of genetic factors and environmental factors.  Understanding this risk allows to put in place preventative measures and adjust lifestyle choices to avoid or minimize their negative effects.

  • Pharma Pain panel – This tests allows you to understand your pharmacological profile, to understand your susceptibility to compounds used in the treatment of pain.   Some genetic changes can impact the metabolism of drugs, rendering them on one hand ineffective, or on the other hand toxic, with varying side effects.  Medications undergo two transformations, it is first transformed into an active substance to work effectively in the body, and then it is inactivated which allows it to be safely removed.  This phase two metabolism occurs due to enzymes in the liver (cytochrome p450 – CYP genes).   It is important to understand the metabolism effects of medications on your metabolism, as “standard” doses of drugs are selected in clinical trials for “standard” patients.

Stem Cell Therapy

Our team of orthopaedic surgeons have been successfully applying the use of Advanced Stem Cell Therapy since 2011.   The process starts with a consultation, to understand if your condition qualifies for the use of Advanced Stem Cell Therapy, and if so, whether autogenic (own) or allogenic (donor) stem cells.

Our current work and approvals from the regional Bio-Ethics commission for Advanced Stem Cell Therapy focus on the use of stem cells in the field of orthpaedics, related to;

  • Enabling cartilage regeneration in osteoarthritis
  • Offering conservative treatment options for patients disqualified from orthopaedic surgery for medical reasons
  • Reducing pain and inflammation in conservative treatment of degenerative changes in the joints
  • Providing faster recovery after muscles and ligaments injuries
  • Boosting the healing process after a surgery

We apply Advanced Stem Cell Therapy in the treatment of; knee joint, shoulder, elbow joints, ankle joints and spine.

We offer Advanced Medical Product Therapy (ATMP) of stem cells using two forms of Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSC);

  • Autogenic (own) stem cells : derived from your adipose (fat) tissue (adMSCs)
  • Allogenic (donor) stem cells: derived from the umbilical cord, Whartons Jelly (WJ-MSCs)

In co-operation with the Polish Stem Cell Bank (PBKM)we offer the opportunity to ‘bank’ (store) your adipose (fat) tissue stem cells (adMSC) for later use.

The qualification and application process involves the following steps:

  • Qualification process
    • Consultation with an orthopaedic surgeon
    • Prescreening and testing (including bloodwork)

  • Ongoing monitoring
    • Health screening survey; pre-program, prior to each injection and post program
    • Imaging diagnostics, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) - at the beginning, midpoint and exit of the program

  • In the case of adipose (fat) tissue
    • Extraction of fat tissue via a mini-liposuction procedure
    • Banking of your stem cells (at the certified and controlled facilities of PBKM)

  • Ultrasound guided Stem Cell Injections (adMSCs or WJ-MCSs)
    • The year-long protocol involves injections every 3 months
    • Regular health screening and imaging diagnostics to monitor your progress, symptoms and overall conditions
    • A needle arthroscopy can also be used, using the Arthrex NanoScope Camera
